Airsoft guns are similar to paintball guns, in that they both use air pressure to fire a projectile. Airsoft guns, however, fire a small 6mm plastic BB, eliminating the mess of splattered paint. Airsoft guns come in a wide variety of styles including handguns, shotguns, rifles, and even automatic machine guns! The majority of airsoft guns utilize a mechanical battery powered gearbox which rapidly compresses air to fire an airsoft BB. Most airsoft pistols use pressurized gas to both fire the airsoft BB, as well as simulate realistic recoil and slide cycling. Other airsoft guns such as shotguns and snipers are spring powered, and use a manual cocking device to fire a plastic BB.
